THE INSTITUTE OF COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PRACTITIONERS is officially registered in Nigeria by the Corporate Affairs Commission with approval from the Federal Ministries of Education and Justice, Abuja and has mandate to advance community development education and professional practices in the country. The institute shall promote community capacity building, popularize community development strategies, undertake research, publish and disseminate information relating to community development and organise meetings, conferences, training and exchanges in the field of community development.
In the furtherance of the foregoing objects but not further or otherwise, the Institute shall carry on diverse activities relating to general community development and initiate, design and implement programmes in connection thereto for the purpose and objects aforesaid.
Community Development (CD) practitioners in Nigeria would have opportunity for continuing professional development and practice exchange in addition to contacts with similar institutes and associations worldwide like the International Association for Community Development (IACD). In view of the dynamic nature of CD education and practice, professional development and practice exchange activities and opportunities would be announced from time to time.

CALL FOR PARTICIPATION
On behalf of all members of IACD in Nigeria, you are invited to attend the fourth meeting of IACD members in Nigeria. The meeting will be followed by the 3rdNational Community Development Practitioners’ consultative conference/workshop that will include all interested persons that would like to join IACD or are involved with community development practice in Nigeria. You are therefore invited to join colleagues from all over Nigeria in strengthening Community Development practiceand professionalism. You can participate in either the meeting and conference or present papers on any of the sub-themes. The conference/workshop will be preceded by pre-conference workshop on the theme “ Evolving an effective Tertiary Education Institutions community engagement in Nigeria”. There will be mobile learning workshop through visits to KWASU Community Development project sites.
The objectives of the meeting and conference/workshop are to:
- Provideopportunity for all IACD members to know each other and for recruitment of new members,
- Create aplatform forpromotingthe ideals and goals of the IACD in Nigeria and in Sub-Saharan Africa in general,
- Discuss ways of promoting community development roles of tertiary education institutions
- Examine ways off facilitating community development by different sectors-institutional engagements with communities, groups and systems
The Institute of Community Development Practitioners (ICDP) Nigeria announces the commencement of short training courses for development practitioners in public and private sectors includingpractitioners in the voluntarysector. It is capacity building opportunity for Staff and members of CBOs, NGOs, Community Development, Social Welfare, Women Development, Cooperatives and Youth Development Departments, Agriculture and Rural Development, Micro-Finance agencies and Regional planning Departments.The courses also targets persons wishing to take up professional or voluntary work in community development.
